Create breakout rooms during a meeting
- Start or join your Teams meeting as the organizer.
- In the meeting toolbar, select Rooms.
- Choose the number of rooms you want to create.
- Choose how participants should be assigned:
- Automatically: Teams distributes participants into rooms.
- Manually: You choose who goes into each room.
- Let people choose their rooms.
- Select Create rooms.
- Review the room assignments.
- Select Open rooms when you are ready to send participants into their rooms.
Manually assign participants
- Open Rooms or Breakout rooms.
- Select Assign participants.
- Choose the participants you want to place together.
- Select Assign and choose the room.
- Repeat until everyone is assigned.
Manage rooms during the meeting
While rooms are open, you can:
- Join any breakout room.
- Move participants between rooms.
- Rename rooms.
- Send an announcement to all rooms.
- Close rooms to bring everyone back to the main meeting.
Create breakout rooms before a meeting
- Go to Calendar in Teams.
- Open the scheduled meeting.
- Select Breakout rooms.
- Choose the number of rooms.
- Assign participants automatically or manually.
- Save your changes.
