ReadSpeaker can be used in three ways for its text-to-speech capabilities. It can be accessed directly within Brightspace to read course materials and content. The ReadSpeaker website allows users to input text or upload files. Additionally, the WebReading feature enables users to have other webpages read aloud.
Brightspace
- Navigate to your course and locate the content where you need to use ReadSpeaker.
- Open the content, at which point you will encounter one of two options depending on the content you are accessing:
- Speaker Icon
- Click the speaker icon to open the toolbar.
- Select Listen. You can also select the hamburger icon to adjust the settings based on your preferences.

- Click Listen. You can also select the hamburger icon to adjust the settings based on your preferences.

ReadSpeaker TextAid Website
- Log in to Brightspace.
- Click School Resources in the navbar on either the homepage or any course homepage.
- Select TextAid from the dropdown menu, which will open the TextAid website in a new window.
Web Reading (Computer)
- Browser Extension
- Log in to Brightspace
- Click School Resources in the navbar on either the homepage or any course homepage.
- Select TextAid from the dropdown menu, which will open the TextAid website in a new window.
- Install the “ReadSpeaker TextAid” extension to your browser.
- Select the “ReadSpeaker TextAid” extension from your browser’s extension menu.
- Use the toolbar that opens to read back webpages by selecting the Listen or Play buttons. You may change settings from the toolbar based on your preferences.
- WebReader Bookmark
- Log in to Brightspace
- Click School Resources in the navbar on either the homepage or any course homepage.
- Select TextAid from the dropdown menu, which will open the TextAid website in a new window.
- Click Web Reading on the left toolbar.
- Select Computer followed by Other Browser.
- Follow the provided instructions to add the bookmark to your browser.
- To use WebReader, click the bookmark on any webpage and the toolbar will open.
Mobile
- Open your browser and log in to Brightspace.
- Click School Resources in the navbar on either the homepage or any course homepage.
- Select TextAid from the dropdown menu, which will open the TextAid website in a new window.
- Select Web Reading on the left sidebar.
- Create a bookmark for the page.
- Edit the bookmark and rename the title to "TextAid Web Reader".
- Delete the URL of the bookmark.
- Copy and paste the below code into the URL field.

Important Note: To access the TextAid Web Reader functionality, ensure you are logged into your Brightspace ReadSpeaker account through the ReadSpeaker website.
