Reset Password or MFA

Option 1: Reset Your Password or MFA Using Nametag

Aurora University uses Nametag as a secure identity-verification tool for password resets, multi-factor authentication (MFA) updates, and account recovery.

Nametag uses your mobile device to compare a government-issued photo ID with a live selfie. This process helps protect Aurora University accounts from fraud and unauthorized access.

Before You Begin

You will need:

  • A mobile phone or tablet with a working camera
  • A government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or passport
  • A well-lit location where your face and identification can be clearly seen

Do not use your Aurora University ID card. Nametag requires a supported government-issued photo ID.

Reset Your Password or MFA with Nametag Self-Service

  1. Go to reset.aurora.edu.
  2. Enter your Aurora University account information when prompted.
  3. Use your mobile device to scan the QR code displayed on the screen.
  4. Follow the prompts on your mobile device.
  5. Take a live selfie when prompted.
  6. Scan your government-issued photo ID.
  7. Review the information and tap Verify or Verify and Login.
  8. Return to the self-service page.
  9. Select the available option to reset your password or reset your MFA methods.
  10. Follow the remaining instructions to complete the reset.

After your identity has been successfully verified, the recovery options available for your account will be displayed.

Verify Your Identity from a Nametag Link

ITS may send you a Nametag verification link before completing an account or access-related request.

  1. Open the verification link provided by ITS.
  2. Use your mobile device to follow the prompts.
  3. Take a live selfie when prompted.
  4. Scan your government-issued photo ID.
  5. Review the information and tap Verify.

After your identity is verified, ITS can continue processing your request.

Option 2: Reset Your Password Through Okta

Use this option when you do not know your current password but can access one of your configured security methods.

  1. Go to Okta at aurorauniversity.okta.com.
  2. Enter your Aurora University email address or username.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Click Forgot Password?
  5. Click Select next to one of your available security methods:
    • Okta Verify — recommended
    • Google Authenticator
    • Email
    • Phone
  6. Complete the verification process for the method you selected:
    • Okta Verify: Approve the push notification on your phone, and then select the number that matches the number displayed on your computer.
    • Google Authenticator: Enter the code from the app and click Verify.
    • Phone: Enter the code sent to your device and click Verify.
    • Email: Open the message and follow the instructions in the email.
  7. Enter your new password in both password fields.
  8. Click Reset Password.

Option 3: Change a Password You Already Know

Use this option when you know your current password and only want to change it.

  1. Sign in to Okta at aurorauniversity.okta.com.
  2. From the Okta dashboard, click your name in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Settings from the menu.
  4. Click Edit Profile.
  5. Complete the requested multi-factor authentication.
  6. Locate the Change Password section.
  7. Enter your existing password in the Current password field.
  8. Enter your new password in the New password field.
  9. Enter the new password again in the Confirm new password field.
  10. Click Change Password.

Password Requirements

Your new password must:

  • Contain at least 14 characters
  • Include at least one lowercase letter
  • Include at least one uppercase letter
  • Include at least one number
  • Include at least one symbol
  • Not contain any part of your username
  • Not include your first name
  • Not include your last name
  • Not match any of your previous four passwords
