If no phone number or personal email is added to your Okta account upon signing in for the first time, the "Forgot password" option will not send any useful information to recover your account. This guide explains how to set those up if they aren't currently set up for you.
Edit your security information
- Sign in to your Okta dashboard at aurorauniversity.okta.com.
-
Click the drop-down menu with your name in the top right, and then Settings.
-
If any fields are grayed out or nothing is editable, press Edit profile (as shown below) and sign in again with your Okta credentials.
Add a recovery email
- Click Edit in the Personal Information section.
- Enter the email you'd like future recovery links sent to in the Secondary email field (a) and press Save (b).
- An email will be sent to your personal email titled "Confirm email address change" from the email noreply@okta.com containing a link to confirm the change. Click the link.
- Upon clicking the link, you'll be prompted to sign in to Okta again, and then you will encounter a success message like the one shown in the following image.
-
Your personal email should now be a working option for password recovery.
Add a recovery phone number
- Click Set up for the phone option in the Security Methods section.
- You may be prompted to enter your password and 2FA method, and then brought to a screen with the Set up button. Click the Set up button.
- Enter your personal phone number (a), then click Receive a code via SMS (b).
A text message from 65821 with the text "Your verification code is ######." should arrive, where the numbers are the code for the next page. - Enter the code you received (a) and press Verify (b).
- Your phone number should now be a working option for password recovery.
