Introduction
Microsoft 365 and Abnormal AI work together to help protect your mailbox from unwanted and potentially harmful email. Depending on how a message is identified, it may appear in your Abnormal AI email digest or be delivered to your Junk Email folder in Outlook.
If you’re expecting an email and do not see it in your Inbox, use the steps below to help locate it.
About Abnormal AI Email Digests
Abnormal AI has replaced Proofpoint as part of AU’s email security services. If you previously received Proofpoint email digests, you now receive Abnormal AI digests.
Abnormal AI digests include messages identified as malicious or spam. Review your daily digest for messages that may have been incorrectly identified. If a message listed as spam is legitimate and you need assistance obtaining it, submit a ticket to the ITS Helpdesk by emailing itshelp@aurora.edu.
Important: Some messages may be delivered to your Outlook Junk Email folder without appearing in your Abnormal AI digest. If you’re expecting an email and don’t see it in your Inbox or digest, check your Junk Email folder.
Check Your Junk Email Folder
If you’re searching for a message that didn’t arrive in your Inbox, check your Junk Email folder.
- Sign in to Outlook.
- In the left navigation pane, select Junk Email.
- If you do not find it, select More or expand your folder list.
- Review the messages in the folder.
- If you find a legitimate message there, mark it as Not junk to move it back to your Inbox.
Mark a Message as Not Junk
If Outlook incorrectly identifies a legitimate email as junk:
- Open the Junk Email folder.
- Select the message.
- Choose Not junk. Depending on your version of Outlook, you may need to right-click the message and select Report, then Not junk.
- Confirm the action if prompted and the message will be returned to your Inbox.
Tip: If you regularly receive email from the sender, consider adding the sender to your Safe Senders list.
Always Allow Messages From a Sender
To help prevent future messages from a trusted sender from being placed in Junk Email, add the sender or the sender’s organization to your Safe Senders list.
- Select the Settings (gear) icon.
- Choose Mail, then Junk email.
- Under Safe senders and domains, select Add safe sender.
- Enter the sender’s email address or domain (for example, example.com).
- Save your changes.
Block Unwanted Senders
If you receive unwanted messages from a specific sender or organization, you can add the sender or domain to your Blocked Senders list.
- Select the Settings (gear) icon.
- Choose Mail, then Junk email.
- Under Blocked senders and domains, select Add blocked sender.
- Enter the sender’s email address or domain (for example, example.com).
- Save your changes. Future messages from that sender will be directed to your Junk Email folder.
View or Update Junk Email Settings
You can review or update your junk email preferences at any time.
- Select the Settings (gear) icon.
- Choose Mail, then Junk email.
- From this page, you can:
- Add or remove Safe Senders.
- Add or remove Blocked Senders.
