Wireless Device Registration

Introduction

To add devices to the Spartan-Devices network, users must register devices in ClearPass before they can connect to the network. The website is only available from your laptop or mobile device while connected to the AU-Spartans network or from the Aurora University lab computers.

How ClearPass Works

ClearPass is a system used to register digital devices to connect them to the Spartan-Devices wireless network, enabling users to share devices with others on the network, or access devices from other registered devices. Users manage devices and sharing from a website, and each registered device is identified in the system by its MAC address. A MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to each device.

Find My MAC Address

For help finding your device's MAC address, access the Find My Device’s MAC Address guide.

Devices to Register with ClearPass

Most video game consoles, video streaming devices, and other network-enabled devices should be registered with ClearPass, including the following:

Amazon Echo

Amazon Fire TV/Fire Stick

Apple HomePod

Apple TV

Google Nest

Google TV Streamer

Nintendo Switch or Switch 2

PlayStation 4 or 5

Roku

Smart TVs

Wireless Printers

Wireless Speakers

Xbox 360

Xbox Series X or S

Desktop and laptop computers, tablets, and smartphones should not be registered, and should be connected to the AU-Spartans network instead.

Register Your Device

Devices are registered through the Aurora University ClearPass website.

Important: The website is only available from your laptop or mobile device, while connected to the AU-Spartans network, or from Aurora University lab computers.

  1. Navigate to https://clearpass.aurora.edu/guest/auth_login.php, enter your Aurora University username and password, and click Log In.
  2. Click Create New Device.
  3. Enter your device information.
    • MAC Address: Access the Find My Device’s MAC Address guide for help
    • Device Name: A name to identify the device from other devices
    • Email Address: Your Aurora University email to receive the WiFi password
  4. Click Create.
  5. The "Finish Creating Device" menu will appear, along with the WiFi password you need to connect your device to the Spartan-Devices network. The password is different for every device you register.
  6. You will receive an email receipt from noreply@aurora.edu with your device registration confirmation which includes your device's WiFi password.
  7. Your device is now registered and you can connect it to the Spartan-Devices wireless network. If the device cannot connect to the network, verify that the correct MAC address is entered. If the MAC address is correct, contact the ITS Helpdesk at itshelp@aurora.edu or (630) 844-5790 for assistance.

Manage Your Devices

Registered devices are managed through the Aurora University ClearPass website and can be shared with another user or removed from ClearPass.

Important: The website is only available while connected to the Aurora University network, or from your connected laptop or mobile device.

  1. Navigate to https://clearpass.aurora.edu/guest/auth_login.php, enter your Aurora University username and password, and click Log In.
  2. Click Edit Multiple Devices.
  3. Select the device you want to manage and select one of the options:
    • Remove: Unregister your device with ClearPass. You can disable the device, which does not remove it, but disables it from connecting to the wireless network, or you can choose to delete it. Next, click the Make Changes button.
    • Edit: Rename your device, change the MAC address, or edit AirGroup sharing properties. If you choose to share the device, select Shared under the Ownership section. Next, click the Update Device button.
