What's Multi-Factor Authentication?
Multi-Factor Authentication or MFA is an authentication method that requires multiple verifications to allow access to a resource such as an account or application. Your password counts as one form of verification, but your password can be compromised. To compensate, you can have a message sent to your phone to verify that you are the one attempting to use that password.
Why Use MFA?
MFA helps secure your account and data. Even if your password is compromised, you'll get an alert that you can deny if you're not the one trying to access your account. From there, you can sign in and change your password without having your account compromised.
Install Okta Verify
- Download the Okta Verify app from the Apple App Store or Google Play onto your primary mobile device.
- Log in to Okta on your computer.
- When prompted to enroll in Okta Verify, open the Okta Verify app on your phone and scan the barcode that appears in your computer’s browser.
- The next time you log into Okta, it should offer to send you a push notification or ask you for a numeric code. If you choose the push notification, then approve it when it arrives on your phone. If you choose to use the code, then access the code in Okta Verify and enter it into your browser.
Note: You can only register Okta Verify on one device at a time. Authenticating on a second device cancels authorization for the first one.
